How in the hell should I know!! I’m no editor!

Perhaps You Shouldn't Join GoNsayn.Com

My formula for greatness in a human being is amor fati: that one wants nothing to be different, not forward, not backward, not in all eternity. Not merely bear what is necessary, still less conceal it—all idealism is mendaciousness in the face of what is necessary—but love it.                                                      Nietzsche ,Ecce Homo

When it comes to businesses, media companies, or social media networks that have a presence on the Internet today, there’s not one advertiser in the world who wants to throw away good money on an online site that can’t attract traffic or who has a low return rate. They would never sell a thing would they? So in order to attract these advertising dollars, sites must persistently combat the threat of failure to attract visitors, or failure of return. To do this, applicable editors’ and content drivers must endeavor to consistently deliver the most engaging, compelling, and entertaining content they can possibly find from contributors and other various sources. Once, and if they can in fact do this, the plausibility and probability that you will visit, click thru, and spend a desired length of time on their site is higher than average. In fact, this almost insures that they meet their objectives as it also does your rate of return to the site. This in turn ultimately adds to the success of their respective site and ability to gather those lucrative advertising dollars that make the world go around.

As I devour magazines, books, and article after article, I’ve noticed that in order to achieve this success, sites and publications hire an editor to stand at the helm of every venture of this kind. To be sure, these editors’ are ambitious, extremely well read and educated, objectively lucid, and of a cut of cloth not the every day man like me is cut from either. And what is it you wonder that qualifies them to make such savvy comments about all that we find compelling. What apercu allows them to argue the politics of every day issues that we deal with in our lives? Or as to engage us so that we view their sites’ with such importance that we the readers and viewers need recognize the editor’s place at the top of the food chain?

How in the hell should I know!! I'm no editor! Not by a damned sight! To be even clearer, there’s not much I know other than all those things that affect me and the world I live in. In fact if you want to know the truth, I know nothing about being an editor other than what I've learned from the late Clay Felker on the Charlie Rose show. What's more is I'm not a journalist or a writer either. Nor am I a T.V. show host for that matter! Truth is Andrew and I don’t have a budget that allows us the luxury of hiring great writers, journalists, and technicians to help us. Instead, we’ve had to take on the many tasks of trying to manage and get this fledging social network and magazine up and running ourselves. So I’m afraid you’re stuck with me as your editor for the moment.

Not knowing exactly what it is an editor does then, as I wholly lack the education and wherewithal to run this new social media network, it has come to my attention that I  apparently need to write a Letter from The Editor to accompany each issue that we release. A daunting task considering I didn’t even graduate from high school! And what is it that I’m to write about in this issue. I’m not really sure. What I do know is I won’t be following everybody else’s lead currently in our culture. This irresponsible and reckless idea by the media and others that condones the practice of telling people it’s okay to think anything you want as long as you don’t say it out loud. By all means say it as long as it doesn’t upset the hypocrisy of what everybody is supposed to believe socially and culturally normal and acceptable. The idea that wrong is right as long as everybody’s doing it and right is wrong if only a few are doing it.

If you ask me we’ve become afraid for anyone to hear what we really think and feel. Our fear being that whatever we may say or do will no doubt upset this group or that group. It will offend this race or that ethnicity. That it might be insensitive to this sexual orientation or some other religious or fanatical group. What a crock! In all reality we’ve all been re-wired to be afraid to offend everybody and anybody if the subject isn’t about them. In these current times we’ve become afraid of our own pathetic reflections of narcissism, vanity, emptiness, and our own self inflicted pathological wounds and dependence on instant gratification. And then there’s the shame we also feel for whatever reason.

So much so it’s starting to appear to me that the view from which we here at GoNsayn are perched on is audacious, insolent, and way too honest for people. People are afraid of it. It seems nobody wants to be taken seriously or be perceived as being flawed or marked by shame and guilt. No one wants to be honest or un-hypocritical by admitting to others what we admit only to ourselves in the context of our inner dialogue and thoughts. No one’s got the balls to tell the truth! And what is truth? Surely not what editor’s obtrude you with in their monthly rants that serve only their advertisers’ agendas. Where they self righteously spout off some speciously attractive social platitude that deceptively resembles their advertisers wishes to align you with their views under the pretext of social and political correctness. The idea that your behavior be socially accepted as long as you devote yourself entirely to their organizations, political choices, or ideas of slavish consumerism and mass dumbing down.

And against this agenda comes the idea behind GoNsayn! The idea that what you deem important be the platform on which we’ll grow. A platform strictly about you, real people, real events, and the real issues that go on in our lives no matter how frank and candid they be. A place where we can collectively meet and share all those things together that affects each and every one of our lives without having to worry about being right or socially accepted. And to ensure our content is engaging and compelling we’re hoping it comes from no one other than you as opposed to objectively motivated contributors and writers. Hence, we have built GoNsayn with the intention of combining a magazine, a media company, and a social media network all in one so that the articles and profiles made by you will replace the vacancy of the standard profile currently the standard on every popular social network out there. Social networks that replace real thoughts, fears, emotions, efforts of self-actualization, and purely honest motivations and desires with all those epicene colors, lame applications for the lazy, colorful graphics for the color blind, and fancy designs they use to distract us from their insipid content and the boredom in our lives.

Our intention isn’t to tell you what you should think, read, watch, do, and buy. Our intention is to simply give you a platform that will allow you to express all those ideas that we as a global community need to know, hear, share, express, and relate with one another in order to keep growing and learning. My intention is to break every stereotype out there by linking you to the raw emotions, feelings, and ideas of every person’s life by not judging, not laughing, and not degrading their opinions. My job is to simply lead by example if need be. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not a leader. But if I have to spill my guts and tell you my deepest darkest secrets to have you just trust me a bit and join me, then by all means I’ll do it.

How, is up to you. Why, is up to you as well. If we’re going to change the face of culture and once again redirect our own personal destiny on its right path, it’s up to us to do it. It’s not going to happen magically like it does in the movies. We need to stop going down the path of least resistance that is keeping us from achieving the goals we want to achieve in life and start getting our hands dirty again by putting in the work to further the richness of our lives. And our inability to do this, both socially and culturally, has been caused by our own stagnant boredom and inability to communicate with one another other than by the consumerism and price tag of the clothes we wear. This idea that how we look is what we are has to go. It’s killing everything we stand for in this country and around the world.

The content and thoughts you bring all of us either by your blogs, profiles, or comments is engrossed with real emotion, real feelings, our ideas, and the sounds of our own voices. And it’s your voice that people around the world need to hear. And it must be heard! And that’s what our articles and content is about. That is what our blogging application is there for. It’s there for you to share your views with the world by not having to be a professional journalist to do it either. We’re taking the emphasis out of titles and putting back the human aspect of life which is sometimes flawed or struggling to find our way in this world.

The time has come for us to once again talk about all those thoughts and ideas we all think of to ourselves but won’t, and don’t dare bespeak in person or in front of an audience. Whether you want to voice those thoughts and opinions, or just listen to others it’s up to you. Maybe you and I, her and them, can even share or learn form others. And that’s what this Letter from The Editor is. It’s to let you know that you don’t have to agree with me or anybody else for that matter. It’s for you to decide what you believe in, or disagree with, or whether you want to break all and every stereotype out there. It doesn’t matter what you look like or what you do, or whether you agree or disagree, GoNsayn gives everyone the chance to be heard.

I know what you’re thinking. How are we going to do this? To tell you the honest truth I don’t know. Really, I don’t know. But this idea of combining a magazine full of your content and blogs that you’ve written, or profiles that say more to us than your profile shows with pictures of you in designer clothes are the simple the tools you and I will need to do this. GoNsayn is the meeting place for the like minded so as to have a place where you can exchange new ideas, thoughts, and experiences.

What’s more is, any articles or views we share will be strictly from the author’s own subjective experience that you can yourself be a part of only if you so wish. We won’t be righting wrongs, saving trees, or fighting for whatever we feel deserves an opinion from Oprah. I’m just being honest with you that’s all! From where I’m standing it’s not all unicorns and puppies that smell like fairy tale dreams and fancies. We won’t be trying to kid anybody either, trying to de-taboo issues and push agendas that other media outlets try to convince you are the new social norms. That’s not for us to do.

At the risk of having my egocentricity and vanity ridiculed, I often ask myself what I think about when I think of honesty, integrity, truth, and where it stands in my life. That what we here at GoNsayn must present you with is a different angle or another way in which to see life in respect to this integrity and honesty is all I can come up with. The version of life that no one wants you to hear or thinks you shouldn't hear is the only answer I can find. Why join GoNsayn.Com? To change the world with your voice and your choices! Pure and simple! Despite my lack of credentials we all still share the common goal which is to share our lives and let our voices and opinions be heard around the world. Because we need to understand that it’s our voices that move mountains not just our faith or our votes.

In these times and new age were living in, being part of a social media network is the given. The idea is here to stay. GoNsayn has nothing to do with being too cool or not cool enough. It has nothing to do with being a nerd or a poser, or fashionably stylish. It has everything to do though with being honest about how we feel about ourselves. It’s about feeling okay and even loving who we are and how we feel in our own skin. If u don't believe me then just read some of the articles or blogs on the Site now. See how painfully honest they are and then tell me how un-cool those people are for telling their story with no concern whether you accept them or not. That we may become connected more intra-and-interpersonally as opposed to superficially is of course the next logical step I see in social media networking. The connecting of people with the grass roots of humanity as opposed to just posting stupid random thoughts, high scores, and pictures of ourselves up on our profiles.

The reason for this is because someone has to challenge this insidious decline of our culture and it’s we who have to do it collectively. This is not just the job of the editor. If we’re going to change the face of culture, then I’m going to have to rely on you as well. But change requires new ideas, new thoughts, new modalities of living and action so as to allow the possibility of self-actualizing our life’s hopes and dreams. Ergo, I don’t blame people for not wanting change. I don’t blame people for not wanting to join either. GoNsayn is not for everybody that’s for sure! But what site or idea is? Consequently only you can make the decisions that will positively affect you and those around you. I can’t. We need to remember this in order to make the choices that shape our lives, our world, and identities with if we so wish it. One that doesn't have a designer label attached to it or a price tag that costs more than our self respect.

Sure, for the time being this letter may be nothing more than censure and cynicism on my part. Regardless of what it is, the few people that are signing up see the importance of why they should join GoNsayn and I want you to see it as well. So do something crazy for once in your life. Take a chance at finding your inner voice and self. Blog about your humor, that side of you no one knows about, or the deepest darkest secrets along side me and see where that gets you! Share and educate all of us out here with your knowledge. And tell us why you want to have a revolution if that’s what you want-just tell us! No one’s going to judge you for being real. No one’s going to laugh at your thoughts or actual feelings. Not being real is like having the scent of fear on you. The pack only attacks if they smell that fear. So don’t be afraid and be certain in your life as you tell us all your wildest dreams and excesses. Just so long as you tell us! Come on, the world isn’t going to change on its own…you’re going to have to help change it! Join and do it!
